Irish Soda Bread

This Old easy family Irish Soda Bread is perfect and fast to create.

  • 4 cups flour
  • ¼ Cup Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup Butter – cubed
  • 1 1/2 cup of Cold Buttermilk
  • 1 Large Egg Beaten
  • 2 cup raisins-
  • 1 tsp orange zest*

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees.

2. In a large bowl, add flour, salt, soda and butter and mix together until bind. Add buttermilk and egg in a small bowl, mix together. Add milk mixture to flour mixture and mix until combined.  Add raisins and orange zest.

3.Place small amount flour on counter table and turn over dough.  Knead until combined slightly.  Divided into half.  Make the dough into a flat ball and cut and “X” on the top of the dough.  Placed into two well-greased pie tins or iron skillet.  Bake for 45 – 55 mins or until the bread when hit has an echo sound.  Remove and chill.  Cut and serve with butter or honey.

  • * If you don’t have an orange you can use 1 1tps sugar.
